Boat Winterising Checklist: Closing the Season Right

Good winterising shortens spring maintenance, prevents surprises and extends the boat's life. The checklist below sums up the essentials not to skip when closing the season. (Note: engine and mechanical work is outside our expertise; we refer you to trusted services for that.)

Underwater and hull

• Haul-out and pressure wash: clean off a season's weed and growth straight away — it's far harder once dry.
• Hull check: note antifouling condition, any osmosis blisters and scratches; plan spring accordingly.
• Anode check: flag spent anodes.

Deck, interior and damp

• Empty the interior and ensure ventilation; stand cushions up or store them at home.
• Desiccant and good air circulation prevent mould.
• Don't leave water in tanks and circuits (freeze risk).

Cover and storage

• The right cover: use a ventilated winter cover that doesn't trap damp; tight plastic breeds mould.
• Secure standing: the boat must be properly propped with weight evenly distributed.
• Book early: hardstanding fills fast; don't wait for season's end.
