Fibreglass hull
Look for osmosis signs, gelcoat cracks and traces of previous repairs on the underwater surface. If the moisture reading is high, factor it into the negotiation.
Wooden hull
Softness, darkening and rot at deck and hull joints are critical. The state of caulking and varnish shows the maintenance burden.
Hull and waterline
How many antifouling layers have built up, is the hull fair, are there impact or repair marks? Thick paint layers and hidden repairs deserve attention.
Deck and teak
Teak thickness, seam condition and soft (water-ingressed) areas on deck matter. A wet deck means an expensive repair.
