Regular maintenance is the best cure for big repairs. Here's a seasonal roadmap to keep your boat healthy year-round. (Note: engine/mechanical care is outside our scope; we can refer you to a service for that.)

Spring — season prep

• Hull check and, if needed, antifouling renewal
• Gelcoat/paint check, scanning for scratches and osmosis signs
• General review before launch

Summer — in-season checks

• Watch for early growth at the waterline and hull
• Monitor sun wear on teak and exterior wood
• Repair small damage before it grows

Autumn — winterising

• Haul-out, pressure wash and hull assessment
• Working through the winterising checklist
• A ventilated cover that prevents damp and mould

Winter — planning and big jobs

• The best time for extensive fibreglass or wooden refit
• Plan spring maintenance ahead for an early launch
