Boat Charter or Ownership? Which Suits You?

There are two ways to get out on the water: charter or own. The right choice depends on how often you'll use it, your budget and your view of maintenance responsibility.

Chartering

Pros: low entry cost, no maintenance worries, freedom to try different boats. Limit: expensive long-term if you use it often; no "your own boat" feeling or personalisation.

Ownership

Pros: freedom to sail whenever you like, personalisation, more economical long-term with frequent use. Limit: annual running cost (berthing, maintenance, winterising) and responsibility.

A rough rule
