Epoxy Wood Reinforcement: Tradition and Modern Combined

Modern epoxy has added new strength to wooden boatbuilding. Used correctly, it strengthens the boat and improves waterproofing without spoiling traditional woodwork.

What does epoxy do?

Saturation: strengthens weakened but sound wood from within. Filling: structurally closes voids and cracks. Lamination: with glass fibre, adds strength to critical areas.

Advantages

High adhesion, excellent waterproofing and durability. It's very effective for rebuilding a cleaned area in rot repair.

Limits and correct use

Epoxy isn't right everywhere; it can restrict the wood's ability to breathe and move naturally. So where to use epoxy and where traditional methods takes experience. Epoxy in the wrong place can trap moisture beneath and hide rot.
