Boat Biminis, Covers and Canvas: Sun, Rain and Comfort

Biminis, sprayhoods and covers are the exterior textiles that shape both comfort and protection aboard. A well-chosen system blocks sun, rain and UV; it protects your boat and you.

Main types

• Bimini: a sunshade over the cockpit; the basis of cruising comfort.
• Sprayhood: protection against rain and spray.
• Storage cover: protection from UV and damp while the boat waits (see cover selection).

Material and stitching

Fabric suited to marine conditions — UV-resistant and water-repellent — plus UV-resistant thread and stainless fixtures are essential. Even the best fabric is short-lived with weak stitching — stitch quality is decisive.

Made to measure

Biminis and covers should be measured to the boat's lines; off-the-shelf sizes rarely fit exactly. Correct tension determines both the look and water run-off (no pooling).
