Metallic and pearl effect paints give a boat a deep, standout look in the harbour. But this finish takes more skill and care than solid colours.
What look does it give?
Metallic pigments reflect light from different angles, giving depth and a sense of movement. Pearl effects shift the tone with the viewing angle. Special effects set the boat apart in a crowd.
Why is it hard to apply?
Even pigment distribution is critical in metallic paint; uneven application causes "mottling" and "clouding". So spray technique, coat count and a protective clear coat on top are essential. The clear coat provides both gloss and UV protection.
Maintenance
Effect paints are more sensitive to UV and scratches than solid colours; regular protection and careful cleaning extend their life. Repair also takes more expertise — a spot touch-up isn't always easy.
