Non-Slip Deck Coating: Safety and Comfort

What are the coating options that prevent slipping on a fibreglass deck? Solutions for a safe walking surface when wet.

The deck is a boat's most walked-on and wettest surface. A deck whose non-slip texture has worn creates a safety risk. Non-slip coating restores both safety and comfort.

Options

  • Additive non-slip paint: special additives in the paint give a textured, grippy surface; economical and renewable.
  • Moulded/pattern texture: a non-slip pattern formed during application.
  • EVA / synthetic coating: bonded soft, non-slip panels (see synthetic teak alternatives).

Which when?

On a fibreglass deck with worn non-slip texture, additive paint is practical and economical. For a more comfortable, warmer feel, especially on boats with children, EVA panels make sense. If a natural look is your priority, teak is the alternative.

Prep matters

The surface must be prepped correctly for the coating to hold (see surface prep); otherwise the coating lifts at the edges.

We apply non-slip deck solutions under our deck and painting services.
