What Determines Osmosis Treatment Cost? A Guide

Why isn't osmosis treatment a fixed price? How boat length, extent of damage and drying time affect the cost.

The honest answer to "how much is osmosis treatment?" is: it depends. But if you know what changes it, you can judge a quote properly and avoid cheap-looking jobs that end up half-done.

Factors that set the cost

  • Boat length and surface area: the job scales with the underwater area.
  • Extent of damage: a few local blisters and a fully affected hull are very different.
  • Drying time: the most variable item. The laminate must dry completely; this depends on climate and moisture level.
  • Barrier-coat system: how many epoxy coats and which product affect the price.

Why no fixed price?

Most of the osmosis job is drying, and drying time can't be known exactly upfront. A quote that says "this much" without measuring moisture will either under-do the work or pad the risk into the price. The right approach is a moisture reading at the survey and a realistic range.

The hidden cost of a cheap quote

A job that applies a barrier coat before drying traps the moisture inside, and osmosis returns within a season or two. So the most expensive osmosis treatment is the one done twice.
