The quality of a fibreglass repair largely depends on choosing the right resin. There are two main options: polyester and epoxy. Each has its place.
Polyester resin
Most boats are built with polyester; it's compatible and economical in repair. Pros: low cost, easy to apply, compatible with the original laminate. Limit: lower adhesion and waterproofing than epoxy.
Epoxy resin
Pros: superior adhesion, high strength and excellent waterproofing. Preferred for the osmosis barrier coat and structural repairs. Limit: more expensive and more sensitive to application conditions.
Which and when?
For general cosmetic repairs compatible with the original laminate, polyester; for underwater, structural and osmosis work, epoxy. We make the right choice for the construction and the job.
