Yacht Refit in Turkey: Costs, Yards and What to Expect (2026)

Every winter hundreds of foreign-flagged yachts sit in Marmaris, Göcek, Fethiye and Bodrum, and many use the off-season for paint, teak, interior and hull work. Turkey has become a refit destination for three reasons: labour cost, yards that work all year, and a deep boatbuilding tradition. This guide covers what that means in practice.

Where the cost gap comes from

Refit work is mostly labour. Painting, teak and upholstery have a small materials share and a large hours share. For the same job, a Turkish quote typically lands 30-50% below Western Mediterranean yards. Materials — paint systems, teak, marine fabrics — come from the same international brands, so the quality difference sits in workmanship and supervision, not in the products.

Which coast for which job

Tuzla (Istanbul) has the largest haul-out capacity and painters used to superyacht topsides. Bodrum and Marmaris are the heart of the wooden-boat and teak trade. Göcek and Fethiye are where most cruising yachts winter, so they are the most practical places to combine storage with a refit.

Combining refit with wintering

What a refit covers

Typical items: topside repaint, teak deck renewal, interior upholstery and joinery, gelcoat and osmosis work. Engines and rigging are handled by specialist contractors; a good yard coordinates them.

Paperwork and stay

EU and UK flagged yachts commonly stay in Turkey over winter under a transit log arrangement; marinas and agents handle the routine. Ask the yard early if the boat will be ashore beyond the usual period, so documents are aligned.
