Inflatable and RIB Repair: Hypalon or PVC?

The material difference in inflatable repair: Hypalon vs PVC. Punctures, seams and valves; RIB hull work.

Repair on inflatables and RIBs starts with the material: tubes may be Hypalon (CSM) or PVC, and each needs different adhesive and technique. A patch made with the wrong material soon lifts.

Hypalon vs PVC

Hypalon is more resistant to UV and chemicals and lasts longer; PVC is cheaper but fatigues faster in the sun. Correct diagnosis is the precondition for a correct patch.

Tube-side repairs

Common jobs: puncture/tear patching, seam and joint separation, valve replacement, re-bonding the tube-to-hull joint. Where a tube is fully fatigued, replacement can be better than patching.

On RIBs the rigid fibreglass hull is a separate item; we serve crack repair, gelcoat and antifouling.
