A decision boat owners often face: for maintenance and storage, stay in the marina (afloat) or haul out to the hardstand (ashore)? Both have their place.
Marina (afloat)
Pros: quick access, easy in-out, daily use. Limit: the hull is constantly in water, raising growth and osmosis risk; underwater work isn't possible.
Hardstand (ashore)
Pros: the hull dries, antifouling, paint and underwater repair are possible, osmosis risk drops. Limit: haul/launch cost and less access.
Which for which job?
For daily use and short-term berthing, the marina; for extensive maintenance, paint, hull and winterising, the hardstand is the right choice. Any job involving the underwater section needs the hardstand.
We plan maintenance that needs hauling out under our winterising and maintenance service. For detail, see our haul-out guide.
