Even well winterised, a boat is affected by moisture, temperature swings and inactivity over winter. Spotting these signs early at spring launch is the key to a smooth season start. This article complements our spring maintenance guide.
Moisture and mould
In a closed-up interior, mould and damp are the most common winter damage. Upholstery, cushions and wood surfaces are checked; early action prevents permanent staining.
Cracks and freeze
Temperature swings can create fine cracks in the gelcoat; freezing water enlarges damage in tight gaps. Below the waterline, osmosis symptoms can progress unnoticed over winter.
Spring launch check
Before splashing, hull, underbody, anodes and interior are reviewed one by one. Catching small damage here prevents surprises in season. We do repairs under fibreglass repair and related services.
